A coffee with… Pushpa Debnath

A creative problem-solver with a passion for coding and collaboration, Pushpa embodies the best of Bipsync’s culture. 

The problem-solver extraordinaire

One of the joys of Bipsync is seeing the progression of talented young students and graduates into highly-skilled professionals. Pushpa Debnath’s passion for problem-solving began shaping her future from an early age, and more recently led her to Cardiff University where she studied Applied Software Engineering and found her way to Bipsync.

“I started my journey with Bipsync as a summer QA intern during my second year,” Pushpa explains. “I continued working part-time through my third year and transitioned into a full-time role after graduating. It was the perfect opportunity to bridge the gap between theory and practice.”

Applying an artistic flair and attention to detail

A typical day for Pushpa at Bipsync involves working through tickets, collaborating with her team, and ensuring the solutions she develops are the best they can be. “I focus on maintainability and thoroughly test everything, especially for iOS apps where inefficiencies can be harder to spot on powerful devices.” Regular team meetings also play a crucial role in her work, allowing her to contribute ideas, discuss new features, and collaborate on improvements.

But Pushpa’s creativity extends far beyond her work at Bipsync. Outside the office, she enjoys drawing, sewing and playing badminton. During the Covid pandemic, she even started a YouTube channel to share time lapse videos of her artwork. “It’s fascinating to rewatch these videos years later and see the artwork come to life all over again.”

She also has a genuine passion for coding, and enjoys collaborating on creative projects with a group of like-minded friends during their free time, combining skills and ideas to bring unique concepts to life.

Loving and living the Bipsync culture 

Pushpa’s dedication and drive are evident in the contributions she’s made at Bipsync. One standout achievement was developing a JMeter suite of tests to evaluate API performance, which is now part of releases. She also successfully refactored a section of the Bipsync iOS app, removing outdated code and improving its efficiency. “These projects were challenging but incredibly rewarding.”

Pushpa has benefited from a Bipsync environment that supports her personal and professional growth aspirations, and speaks highly of the company’s welcoming and inspiring culture: “The teams make you feel motivated and supported from day one,” she says. “Everyone’s diverse interests and hobbies encourage you to learn and evolve together. It’s a collaborative environment that reminds me of working with my university friends on group projects — rewarding and fun!”

Long-term goals and advice for upcoming grads

Transitioning from study to a professional environment can be challenging for some, but Pushpa puts her achievement down to a simple yet effective strategy. “I like to work from small, achievable tasks,” she explains. “I find the process of ticking off completed tasks very gratifying. For work, I try to finish tasks or leave them at a clear stopping point where I can easily pick them up again later.”

And while it’s been a successful couple of years on her Bipsync journey so far, Pushpa has a strong desire for self-improvement. “One of the areas I want to improve is thinking more outside the box and producing more questions that would be valuable during feature planning and scoping.” Personally, she aims to continue balancing her hobbies with her career, managing her work-life balance effectively, and achieve her goal of buying a house in the near future.

Pushpa’s journey at Bipsync highlights the value of a supportive environment, a passion for learning, and a dedication to personal growth. As she continues to contribute her skills and creativity, it’s plain to see her story is only just getting started!
