Bipsync Notes iOS version 1.6.0 is now available from the App Store. This release brings official support for iOS 9, including its multitasking feature.
We intend to publish release notes for the Bipsync Notes app on a quarterly basis in future. With this being the first post on the topic we thought we’d also highlight some features that debuted in recent releases of the app.
Multitasking
Multitasking allows users to browse, view and edit their Bipsync notes on their smart device while also using another app such as a web browser, which dramatically improves productivity. It’s a really useful feature that is available in two modes: Slide Over (available on iPad Air, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 2 or later), and Split View (available with iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 4, and the soon-to-be-released iPad Pro). For more information check out Apple’s feature on multitasking. Here’s what it looks like in action:

Keyboard shortcuts
Those who use an external keyboard with the app will be pleased to learn that in iOS 9 Apple addressed a number of issues around text selection using keyboard shortcuts. Users will need to upgrade their devices to iOS 9 to take advantage of these improvements.
Search
As a fund’s note repository grows, search becomes an essential capability. Without question, the most requested feature from our users was a way to search their notes within the app. We were determined to offer a solution that was comprehensive and fast, and delivered just that in version 1.4.0. By sliding any list of notes downward, users can access a search bar that allows them to filter the current list of notes by text:
Entering text into the search bar quickly searches through all your notes to find those which match the search query:
In addition to general full-text querying, we also support matching on an exact ticker. This is a fast way to locate notes that have been associated with a particular company through tagging:
Pipeline browsing and tagging
Pipelines allow our users to bring their custom workflows into Bipsync. For example, research can be progressed from the idea stage right through to investment, and shared with other analysts and portfolio managers along the way. Since version 1.5.0, the Notes app has supported the browsing and tagging of notes with items within a pipeline. Here’s how our blog post pipeline looks in the app:
Bipsync sharing
The sharing of notes with other users within the Bipsync system is an integral part of the research process, and since version 1.5.1 the app has allowed users to change the sharing settings of their notes. This means notes can now be shared with the entire fund, one or more user groups, or one or more individual users, right from the app. In the event that a note no longer needs to be visible to other users, its sharing status can be set to private, too. The sharing menu for a note can be accessed from its properties view.
Stay tuned
We have some exciting features on the roadmap for the Bipsync Notes app, including some that have been made possible since the introduction of iOS 9. If there’s something you’d like to see in the app, don’t hesitate to let us know.
