The Bipsync Research Management System RMS is now on release 132, which introduces a new security feature, several improvements to our desktop app, and many other smaller fixes for the web app.
Custom Certificate Support
Our enterprise clients often take advantage of our ability to restrict access to the iOS app through the use of custom certificates. We’re pleased to announce that with this release we have extended support for this feature to our desktop app, which means all native apps within the Bipsync suite are now compatible with this approach.
This technique works best within organizations that employ technologies such as Windows Server or MobileIron to remotely administer their client devices. This allows them to distribute certificates to only the devices that they trust; these devices are then able to trust and access Bipsync in turn. Users continue to authenticate themselves as normal.
We are now also able to assign custom certificates to our web apps.
This enables our clients to add yet another layer of protection to their Bipsync installation. If you’d like to incorporate this feature into your Bipsync deployment or to discuss custom certificate support in more detail, please get in touch.
Desktop App: File Attachments and Single-Sign-On
The desktop app saw a couple of other notable improvements with this release.
Firstly, we expanded the capabilities of the file attachment feature. It now supports attaching files to a wider variety of tag types, including tags that relate notes to items in a process management workflow.
Simply type in a tag name and select it, then optionally assign a type to the file. If an earlier version of the file exists, that can also be replaced with the new version – this works especially well for models attached to a company, as in the example above.
In this release we’ve also made it possible to configure the single-sign-0n (SSO) flow to make it more streamlined. This is particularly useful for larger enterprise organizations: through remote configuration of the app they can now initiate the SSO process automatically when the app is launched. This removes the burden on users to manage such configuration themselves.
Other Fixes and Improvements
- Improvements to conditional styling of grids on dashboards.
- Grids on dashboards can now display an aggregate count of other column values.
- Other minor fixes.
