The Bipsync Research Management System RMS is now on release 130. This week also saw version 1.29.1 of the Bipsync Notes iOS app  delivered to the App Store. We’ve introduced a number of exciting new features across these releases, here’s a quick overview:

PDF Annotations

PDF annotation has been available in our iOS app for a while, which allows a wide range of expressive annotations to be added to documents. In this release we bring annotation support to the Bipsync web app as a beta feature which can be enabled on demand. You can quickly and easily annotate with highlights, comments, freehand drawings and more. Here’s a short demonstration of its capabilities:

Pages can be browsed via a thumbnail gallery, and a powerful search that’s integrated with our main app search allows your documents to be found quickly and easily.

This feature is a great way to add your insight to investment research documents. If you’d like to try it out, please get in touch.

Sketches and Handwritten Notes

Many analysts like to add quick sketches to their notes, while sometimes handwritten notes are a preferred option. We’re pleased to offer a new solution for both these groups of users with the latest release of the Bipsync Notes iOS app. Now anyone with an Apple Pencil and a compatible iPad or iPad Pro can attach any number of hand-drawn documents to a note.

The sketch tool uses the same technology as our PDF annotation feature, and the sketches are stored within PDF files. This allows us to extract text from each document and index it in our search engine, so these handwritten notes are fully discoverable within our system. This makes for a much more attractive proposition to analysts and compliance officers alike, rather than a real notebook which often ends up stashed away gathering dust in a desk drawer.

To add a sketch to a note, tap the ellipsis button on the note editor toolbar, and select “Attach Sketch”. You can add as many pages to the sketch as you like; to add a page, open the thumbnail gallery and tap the ‘New Page’ icon.

Biometric Authentication

For some time iOS has supported user identification via Touch ID, and more recently Face ID. We now integrate with these services to provide a second authentication factor.

Biometric authentication can optionally be enforced to ensure that the app cannot be used until the user has first enrolled in the scheme. Configuration options include the ability to dictate when the user is challenged to authenticate; for example, we can challenge them each time they return to the app, or after a certain amount of time has passed with no activity.

Please contact us if you’d like us to enable this feature on your installation.

Other Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Added “filter users by name” in the client administration app.
  • Enhanced security measures including a more configurable account lock-out feature.
  • Fixed a display issue concerning resized columns when using the responsive web app on an iPad device.

As usual, please get in touch with any questions about this Bipsync Research Management System RMS  release, or if you have any feedback or suggestions about the Bipsync platform.
