Chat with… Osian Jones

Name: Osian Jones
Role: Software Engineer
Drink of Choice: Dr Pepper

Welcome back to A Chat with…, our blog series where we grab a drink and get to know the talented people building the future of investment management technology at Bipsync.

Today, we’re chatting with Osian, one of our Software Engineers, about his path through EdTech, InsurTech and FinTech to Bipsync, building AI Matrix from idea to launch, and his “I can do that” approach to DIY, his love of Christmas and his long-suffering Minnesota Timberwolves fandom.

What’s your role and how did you land at Bipsync?

Osian joined Bipsync as a Software Engineer after working across a varied mix of industries, including EdTech, InsurTech, vehicle leasing and FinTech. Since joining, he’s worked on the core product, from new features and integrations to modernising older parts of the platform. He recently moved over to the native apps team, a completely new direction he’s excited to explore, since he’s always learned best by building.

What’s one thing you’re proud of having worked on here?

Osian points to AI Matrix, where he took ownership of the implementation and worked with colleagues across the business to turn an original idea into something users could get their hands on. The project grew as it went, and he loves looking back at how much more shipped than was first planned.

What do you like most about the Bipsync team?

For Osian, it’s how seamlessly the team works across both sides of the Atlantic. Despite colleagues being spread across the UK and US, there’s always a strong crossover, and the different perspectives and approaches to problem-solving make the team stronger. He also appreciates his teammates putting up with his steady stream of ChatGPT-generated memes about them.

Tell us about a hobby you’re into outside of work.

Osian is a big rugby and basketball fan. He chose the Minnesota Timberwolves, so he’s “building character” while he’s “absolutely delighted” for Sean’s Knicks success. He also has an “I can do that” attitude toward DIY, which usually starts with a YouTube video and ends with a new tool and a skill he had no reason to learn. When he’s not doing that, he’s building side projects in the evenings or planning an extravagant Christmas, with enough lights and decorations to make Buddy the Elf think he should tone it down.
